Output Cuts at Stainless Steel Mills Increased Downside Pressures of High-Carbon Ferrochrome

SHANGHAI, Dec 21 (SMM) – Recently, the transactions of stainless steel have been lacklustre. The supply has increased after the end of the power rationing.

The prices of raw materials like ferrochrome and NPI fell but remained high, causing losses of stainless steel mills, especially for 200 series stainless steel. 201J1 prices have fallen by 2,900 yuan/mt, or 22.3% since early November. Six steel mills jointly proposed to reduce the output of 200 series stainless steel, and this is expected to weaken the demand for high-carbon ferrochrome.

The supply of high-carbon ferrochrome is high. The sales will meet difficulties and some sellers will sell with discounts. The high-carbon ferrochrome retail prices are expected to move between 8,400-8,900 yuan/mt (Cr 50%) this week.
